What to expect
How long it takes
About 20 to 40 minutes.
Preparation
No fasting for a plain scan. Remove all metal. Tell staff about any implant, pacemaker or metal fragments.
Contrast
Sometimes given (gadolinium). If contrast is planned you may be asked to fast for a few hours and have a kidney blood test.
Before you travel
Bring your referral letter, any previous scans and reports, a list of your medicines, and your passport. Confirm the price, whether the radiologist's report is included, and when it will be ready. Plan your scan trip.
